Designed to encourage face-to-face connection
Made from solid walnut, Parlor reimagines how classic board games are incorporated into the home. Featuring a mid-century modern style, this coffee and game table is designed to fit elegantly into any space and seamlessly blend no matter the setting.
In it’s resting state, Parlor functions as a traditional coffee table, providing storage for personal items and decor. When it’s time to play a game, the main surface rotates to reveal both a backgammon and chess board, transforming the piece from coffee table to game table.
The design aims to pull people away from the consuming technology of this generation and allow them to focus on what's right in front of them. Parlor prioritizes face-to-face social interaction and raw human connection.
Parlor is a multi-purpose design allowing the user to switch between a coffee table and a game table. To make this transformation possible, the surface is made of over one hundred individual wooden slats aligned side by side, each rotating along an internal track within the table. This mechanism creates the appearance of a solid, continuous surface while still enabling smooth, synchronized movement of the wood.
To transition between surfaces, the user must press down on the top part of the table and push the surface away from themself. This forces the slats to rotate in unison around the inner track revealing a new surface for the table.
