Field  Pack

Spring 2025

In collaberation with Kat Lew and Natalie Ge

Research

“I usually leave my larger bag at the top of field site. I bend over a lot to collect samples and I need a smaller bag with my essentials.”

Quotes:

“Usually I just throw my samples into my bag, but they’re hard to find and often contain delicate, live specimens.”

“Things move fast in the field and I have to be able to switch quickly between tasks. A crab could be running away!”

Halfway point

We incorporated the takeaways from the first round of prototyping into the second round of ideation. We decided to include more buckles and compartments to accommodate research equipment, field tools, and personal items with ease

Designed for field efficiency, Calyx features hip-mounted compartments and external pockets for one-handed use. This allows quick access to essential items like sample vials, notebooks, and pens without opening the main pack.

Features

Calyx’s modular hip pouches detach from the main pack and convert into a standalone fanny pack. This dual-mode system allows users to leave the main pack behind at field stations and move more freely, carrying only the essentials with them.
